When The Blaydon Races bellows from the legendary Gallowgate End, the hairs on your arm will rise and a shiver run down your spine. You cannot help but be swept along by the tide of emotion. The Geordies are proud of their club, wearing their black-and-white striped hearts on their sleeves.
The Toon Army are among the most loyal and long-suffering fans in the world. Relegation didn’t dim their enthusiasm for their team; the average crowd as they won the Championship and returned to the Premier League in 2016/17, was 51,108; St James Park capacity is 52,354. It’s a near capacity crowd for every game.
All of which is an incredible feat considering Newcastle haven’t won a major domestic honour since the FA Cup in 1955. Since then, they’ve lost three cup finals and finished runners-up in the Premier League twice since they were last champions in 1927!
