Torino

Torino, Turin’s second team, settled in their spiritual home of the Stadio Comunale. Only now, it’s known as Stadio Olimpico di Torino, a legacy of the 2006 Winter Olympics hosted in Turin. Renovated ahead of those games, the Stadio Olimpico is a fine footballing venue but not without its quirks. Where many new grounds are soulless bowls, history pervades this stadium. You sense that great things happened here albeit in a distant past. Now, it is a modern stadium. The original running track for the Olympics is gone but there is still some distance between the stands and the pitch. The beauty of the ‘bowl’ design is that the atmosphere travels around the stands with the away fans always seeming to be crammed into the visiting supporters section.  It makes the matchday experience one of the most vibrant in Serie A and in a cosmopolitan city like Turin, one which is definitely not to be missed.
